About Barnes Creative Co.

The person behind
the studio.

I’m Sam Barnes, an independent designer helping growing businesses look sharper, communicate more clearly and build the digital foundations to match.

Design with intent

Good design should make business easier to understand.

Barnes Creative Co. came from a simple idea: smaller and growing businesses deserve the same level of thought, clarity and attention usually reserved for much bigger brands.

That means I care about more than making something look polished. I want the brand, website, content and practical digital setup to work together, so the business feels more considered at every point a customer meets it.

A bit about me

Designer first.
Problem-solver always.

My route into design has combined education with real-world work from the start: production-led signage experience, a BA (Hons) Creative Digital Design degree apprenticeship, in-house creative work at DHL and independent client projects alongside it.

01 / THINK

Start with the problem

Before colours, layouts or logos, I work out what needs to change and what a useful result actually looks like.

02 / CONNECT

Make everything belong

A brand should not stop at a logo. The website, content, print and digital touchpoints should feel like parts of the same business.

03 / SIMPLIFY

Keep it clear

I like thoughtful design without unnecessary theatre. Clear decisions, understandable processes and work that earns its place.

Experience, not ego

Creative thinking backed by real-world delivery.

My experience spans signage and production-led design, freelance client work and in-house creative work at DHL, alongside a BA (Hons) Creative Digital Design degree apprenticeship.

That mix has shaped how I work now: structured enough to handle detail and deadlines, flexible enough to move quickly, and always focused on what the client actually needs rather than what looks clever in a presentation.

DHL Supply Chain

Graphic Designer / Creative Design Apprentice

Working within UK&I Sales and Bid & Proposal Design, I support bid communications, presentations, digital assets, design standardisation and internal creative systems. It has given me experience working with complex information, brand governance, stakeholders and deadlines where the design has to do a job, not just look good.

BA (Hons) Creative Digital Design

Newcastle College

A three-year degree apprenticeship completed alongside full-time industry work, developing my practice across visual communication, digital design, UX/UI, creative technology and research-led problem solving.

Independent designer

Alongside my in-house experience I’ve delivered commercial client work across branding, Webflow websites, print, social content, photography and practical digital setup. I work directly from brief and concept through build, handover and ongoing support.

Signage company experience

Earlier experience in a signage company gave me a practical introduction to design beyond the screen, where artwork has to be clear, accurate and considered for a physical end result. That production-minded thinking still shapes the way I approach brand and print work now.

Why Barnes Creative Co.

Small studio attention.
Big-picture thinking.

You work directly with me throughout the project. No account-manager relay race, no mysterious handoffs, and no design decisions disappearing into a committee.

For the right project, I can help with one focused piece of work or connect the wider brand, website, content and digital setup into something much more coherent.
